Northumberland Chess Association League roundup

Forest Hall Foxes won the playoff match v Gosforth Centurions to retain their place in Division 2 next year.

The Woodpeckers are looking forward to a season in Division 4.

Forest Hall Squirrels have one remaining fixture against Morpeth C to decide if they will enter the playoffs.

Forest Hall Owls are heading into the playoffs and waiting to find out who their opponents will be.

Summer Knockout

Forest Hall Magpies and Forest Hall Badgers start their campaign in the Summer Knockout next week at Gosforth. The Magpies face Gosforth Jedis and the Badgers will play Newcastle University in round 1.

Club Championship

Forest Hall Chess Club Championship has now started. This is a 5 round Swiss Competition. Entrants will be competing for the magnificent trophy which is currently held by Ethan Tatters.

Northumberland Chess Association Individual Championships

Jeff Baird (on four and a half points from 6 games) is facing Alex Blake in the final round of the Gilroy Competition with a chance to finish the tournament in joint first position. There have also been creditable performances from Jonathan Solomon and Ethan Tatters who are playing in the Gilroy for the first time this year. Ethan faces David Simm and Jonathan plays Gautham Sathishkumar in the 7th round.

Junior News

Jonathan was presented with the winner’s trophy in the Senior’s section of the NJCA Dame Allan’s event recently, with a perfect 6/6 score in the tournament. Leonardo and Ciaran also from Forest Hall were joint runners-up in the same event.

David Watson Memorial Rqpidplay at Morpeth

On 27th March Morpeth Chess Club hosted a Rapidplay chess evening as a tribute to David Watson. There was an impressive turnout from Forest Hall players. Ethan, Stuart, Mike, Reese, Anthony, Phil, John and Morgan all took part in the 6 round Swiss tournament. A total of thirty eight players from the region competed and the event raised £225 for local Charities.
